East Windsor Volunteer Fire Company No. 2 celebrates 40th anniversary

Each year, local fire departments take a night out to celebrate the year that was, and install the new and returning officers for the upcoming year. This year’s dinner had a little something extra, as East Windsor Volunteer Fire Company No. 2 gathered with members from the past and present to celebrate its 40th year since incorporating in the fall of 1977., Life Member Bill Welling and his committee spent several weeks and months putting the party together, including a few extras to commemorate the special occasion. All tables included special 40th anniversary glasses for partygoers to take with them. In addition to the disc jockey, there were multiple televisions provided which ran a continuous loop of photos from past and present showing the history of Station 46., The evening began with an introduction of many of the dignitaries from East Windsor Township, including Mayor Janice S. Mironov and several members of council. In addition to recognizing a few of the surrounding fire companies who run regular mutual aid with Station 46, new incoming Chief Mario Batista also took time to recognize new East Windsor Police Chief Jim Geary, as well as several of the life members of East Windsor Volunteer Fire Company No. 2., “It is important to recognize the men and women who came before us to help make our company what it is today,” said Chief Batista, At the conclusion of the awards presentation, which included Rookie of the Year, Top Training Award, and top 10 responders awards, the ceremony culminated with Station 46 President Benjamin Thornton II being awarded the 2016 Firefighter of the Year award., Dick Cunningham shared a preview of the 40th anniversary video to all in attendance. The full-length video is due out in the fall of 2017. Mr. Cunningham was then presented a special award of appreciation from all the members of East Windsor Volunteer Fire Company No. 2 for his continuous efforts in shining a light on the volunteer fire companies and all that they do for the community.
