Transformations Gallery at the Old Franklin Schoolhouse, 491 Middlesex Ave., Metuchen, will present “Unknown Landscapes,” an exhibition of the Cuban artist Enrique Zaldivar, through April 30, with an artist’s reception scheduled from 7-9 p.m. on Feb. 18. The reception will feature a live painting demonstration by the artist as well as live music and light refreshments. It is free and open to the public.
“Unknown Landscapes” consists of 16 acrylic paintings on canvas that Zaldivar created during 2016-2017. He explores themes such as the meaning of life, death, freedom, religion, power and exile and creates an exchange between the real and the surreal. Color is an important element in his work and he uses it in its pure state or with a few mixtures.
