A robotics team from East Brunswick narrowly missed advancing to the next level of competition.
Twenty-seven teams from New Jersey and New York — including Ro11botics697 from East Brunswick — gathered on Feb. 5 to compete for an invitation to the FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Tech Challenge New Jersey “Garden State Rumble” Championship on Feb. 26.
The Ro11botics697 team consists of five students from South River and East Brunswick, coached by Charlie Wang, a software engineer at Johnson & Johnson. The team was ranked first after all qualifying matches were played and got to select two teams to join its alliance for the elimination rounds. After a defeat of their opponents in the semifinal, the alliance fell apart in the final match when Ro11botics697’s allies’ robots both malfunctioned on the playing field and shut down.
However, the team received the FTC Design Award and the Finalist Alliance award.
Ro11botics697 is looking to expand and add new members who have a passion for building. For more information, visit irobotics.org.
