Highland Park Surgical Associates is pleased to announce the addition of Dr. Alissa Brotman O’Neill to its surgical practice. Brotman O’Neill is well known for her expertise in venous and varicose vein treatment. All procedures for varicose veins and venous insufficiency can be done in our office with little, to no down time. A patient with varicose veins can have them treated, and walk out of the office after their procedure.
Brotman O’Neill is specifically trained in venous surgery, arterial surgery, vascular surgery and vascular ultrasound. She is board certified in vascular surgery and the treatment of venous disease, and is also a registered physician in vascular ultrasound interpretation. Brotman O’Neill has spoken nationally about venous disease and surgery, specifically venous reflux, varicose veins and the surgical treatment of deep venous thrombosis. She has presented venous research at vascular societal meetings.
Brotman O’Neill is an expert on each specific modality used to treat varicose veins and venous disease today and tailors that specifically to her patients. Dr. Brotman would use VNUS closure (a minimally invasive technique) on a very large vein in the thigh, but use a different modality, such as Clarivein, if there is a problem below the knee.
Brotman O’Neill was present for the first Clarivein procedure (an incisionless technique) performed in the U.S. She was also the first in Mercer County to implement this technique. Brotman O’Neill is at the forefront of treating venous disease. Clarivein is a catheter-based technology that treats varicose veins and venous insufficiency. Her in-depth experience and superior venous surgical training allows her to approach each patient with an individualized, specific and sometimes varied approach using many different modalities.
In the modern era, it is important for patients to do their homework about their physician’s background, credentials and abilities. Brotman O’Neill is a magna cum laude graduate from Harvard University. She obtained her medical degree from The University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ), now the Rowan University School of Osteopathic Medicine (SOM), where she received the outstanding achievement in Medical Humanities award.
She performed her internship and general surgery residency at UMDNJ/SOM where she served as chief resident. She did her vascular surgery fellowship which included significant training in venous surgery as well as minimally invasive arterially surgery at the Englewood division of the Mount Sinai School of Medicine.
Brotman O’Neill is an assistant professor of surgery at SOM in Stratford. She has been published in Journal of Vascular Surgery and has been named a top doctor in SJ Magazine, Talk of the Town and NJ Magazine. She is a member of the American Venous Forum, Society of Vascular Surgery, NJ Vascular Society and Eastern Vascular Society.
