OAKHURST — A special presentation in honor of Joe Bilby and Harry Ziegler’s book, “A History of Submarine Warfare along the Jersey Shore,” will be held March 14 at 7:15 p.m.

The public is invited to attend this free event at the Board of Education building, 163 Monmouth Road. Images will be presented while the full story is told.

Bilby is a Newark native and Vietnam veteran who currently serves as a historian for the National Guard Militia Museum of New Jersey. He has written over 400 articles and 19 books about military history and New Jersey.

Bilby has generously shared his expertise and collection of personal memorabilia and photographs with the museum.

Bilby will share his and Ziegler’s findings in the next talk of the museum’s Speaker Series. The findings trace the state’s connections to submarine warfare back to 1776, the year the first American submarine sank in the Hudson River.

Prior to the presentation, a brief general meeting will take place to elect museum officers. A book signing will follow the presentation.

The museum collects nonperishable items for the Food Bank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties so any donations are appreciated. Refreshments will be served.
