Richard Ferris will present “Opera Topics – In Praise of Women Part 3 – The Independent Woman – Puccini’s Tosca and the City of Rome” at 10 a.m. on March 14 at The Jewish Community Center of Middlesex County, 1775 Oak Tree Rd., Edison.
No previous knowledge of opera is necessary as this program is designed to inform and entertain newcomers to opera as well as opera enthusiasts. All that is required is enthusiasm for opera and a desire to learn more about how opera treats particular subjects in different ways. Floria Tosca is a professional singer who earns her own living (a rare attribute in opera). She is capable of committing murder to save her lover’s life. She would rather die than fall into the hands of the evil police chief’s henchmen. This powerful story filmed in the City of Rome in the actual locations specified by Puccini, is a pleasure to listen to and watch.
The cost is $8 for Jewish Community Center of Middlesex County members or $11 for nonmembers.
