MARLBORO – Students at the Marlboro Memorial Middle School will have Marlboro thinking pink when they present their production of “Legally Blonde Jr.” on March 24-25.
The fun and upbeat musical follows the adventures of a sorority girl named Elle Woods, a Gemini with a double Capricorn moon, who tries to win her ex-boyfriend back by earning a Harvard law degree, according to a press release.
Delta Nu sorority president Elle Woods, played by eighth-grader Jessica Fegeley, seems to have it all: good looks, a relationship with the “campus catch” and great taste in clothes.
However, her life is turned upside down when her boyfriend, Warner, played by Salvatore Puma, dumps her in an attempt to start getting “serious” about his future and attend Harvard Law.
Determined to win him back, Elle uses a lot of hard work and some charm to get into Harvard Law so she can prove to Warner that she is serious enough for him. Once at school, she is challenged by her peers, professors and her ex.
Befriending classmate, Emmett, played by Luis Rosado, and spunky hairdresser, Paulette, portrayed by Amanda D’Adamo, along the way, Elle finds that books and looks are not mutually exclusive.
The stage direction and production team includes teachers Randi Maskery, Robin Shatsky and Janina West.
The teachers said they knew that 2017 “was our year for ‘Legally Blonde Jr.’ Our kids were born into these roles and they will show you just how ‘serious’ they are about the dramatic arts.”
With a book by Heather Hach, and music and lyrics by Laurence O’Keefe and Nell Benjamin, “Legally Blonde Jr.” is based on the book by Amanda Brown and the movie starring Reese Witherspoon.
“Legally Blonde The Musical” opened at Broadway’s Palace Theatre in April 2007, starring Laura Bell Bundy as Elle.
Marlboro Memorial Middle School, 71 Nolan Road, will present “Legally Blonde Jr.” on March 24 at 7 p.m. and March 25 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Tickets are $10 and may be purchased at the door.
