Even though Winter Storm Stella made less of an impact than what the original forecast predicted, residents of North and South Brunswick still felt her effects on March 14.
In South Brunswick, police responded to a crash around 9:35 a.m. on Route 130 near Stults Road in which a pickup truck collided with a snowplow owned by the state. The driver of the pickup truck suffered a minor injury, according to information provided by the South Brunswick Police Department. Route 130 was closed for a half hour while police cleared the crash.
As of noon, South Brunswick still reported snowfall and hazardous roadways. The total daytime ice accumulation was estimated at less than a 0.1 of an inch, with a daytime snow and sleet accumulation of 2-4 inches possible, according to information provided by the township.
All schools, the township administrative offices and most businesses were closed.
No power outages had been reported. Customers should report downed wires or power outages by calling PSE&G’s Customer Service line at 1-800-436-PSEG, visiting www.pseg.com or texting “OUT” to 4PSEG (47734).
The South Brunswick Emergency Operations Center will be open and monitoring the changing conditions. Residents can expect updates on South Brunswick’s Nixle page as well as at Twitter under @SoBrunswickPD.
In North Brunswick, an update sent to residents around 12:45 p.m. said the blizzard warning had been downgraded to a winter storm warning.
Final snow accumulations were estimated at 4-8 inches.
Power had been lost in the Colonial Gardens section of town, but was restored by 11 a.m. There were no other outages reported.
Refreezing will occur overnight due to sleet accumulation, residents are urged to use caution while driving or walking later tonight into tomorrow morning.
