It’s going to be harder to catch a break – a cigarette break, that is., West Windsor Township Council introduced an amendment to an ordinance that addresses where cigarette smoking is permitted at its Monday night meeting., The ordinance – “Smoking and Use of Tobacco Products Banned” – is being revised so that cigarette smoking is not allowed within 35 feet of any entrance to township-owned buildings., Township-owned buildings include the Municipal Building, the Senior Citizens Center, the West Windsor Post Office, and the Police Department/Municipal Court building, all of which are on the Municipal Complex at 271 Clarksville Road., The 35-foot ban also applies to the Department of Public Works facility, the West Windsor Arts Council building and the Emergency Services building, which are scattered throughout the township., The proposed ordinance amendment eliminates smoking altogether at all township-owned parks and recreational facilities. It had been permitted if the cigarette smoker was at least 35 feet away from someone who does not smoke cigarettes., Violators will be subject to a minimum $100 fine for the first offense, and $250 for a second offense. A third offense will cost a violator $500., A public hearing and final action on the proposed ordinance amendment has been set for West Windsor Township Council’s March 27 meeting.
