Reynolds Wardell Thompson of Mystic, CT died from complications of Alzheimer’s disease on Feb. 28 in New London, CT. He was 74 years old. He and his family lived in the Princeton area from 1983-2001.
Born to Sybil Hultin and Theodore Thompson in Englewood, Renny was raised in Tenafly and Fairfield, CT. He attended Northfield Mount Hermon school followed by Princeton University, where he was a member of the lacrosse team, swim team and the Tower Club. After graduating in 1964, Renny went on to complete two graduate degrees at Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Harvard University.
While in NJ, Renny’s career included strategic development planning for Princeton University, UPenn Hospitals and Newark Public School systems. Notable accomplishments include the first Molecular Biology Science building at Princeton University and the NJ Governor’s Award for the redesign and development of the Newark Public School system. He was also a talented residential architect.
Renny was an avid fly fisherman, bird watcher, and outdoor enthusiast. Renny’s family was his priority; all three of his children attended Princeton Day School and he spent much of his free time volunteering and attending their sporting events. He was a faithful supporter of the Princeton University lacrosse team.
Renny is survived by his wife, Nancy, his three children, Ashley Foley, Jenifer Breezley and Reynolds Thompson, and six grandchildren. A celebration of his life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 25, at the Calvary Episcopal Church in Stonington, CT.
