The South River Historical & Preservation Society is offering three scholarships as part of the 2017 Richard K. Meyers South River History High School Essay Contest. The submission deadline is April 15.
Any graduating high school senior who lives in South River and is planning to continue his or her education is eligible. Awards are $500 for first place, $350 for second place and $150 for third place.
To be eligible for an award, each student must submit an essay of not less than 1,000 words describing something that took place in South River in his or her lifetime. An event need only be of significance to the student; it need not have been a major event in South River’s history.
Essays will be judged by members of the South River Historical & Preservation Society and will be added to the permanent collections at the South River Museum. Judging will be based solely on the quality of the essays, and all awards will be at the discretion of the judges.
