The Hazlet Township Committee recently met to vote on resolutions, discuss an ordinance and declare a proclamation.

The committee unanimously voted “yes” on the following resolutions: issuing raffle licenses to the Hazlet Youth Athletic League and PTO Lillian Drive School; approving an application fee for 111 Tenth St.; endorsing the submission of the recycling tonnage grant application to the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection; and authorizing the Hazlet Recreation Advisory Council to hold a fireworks display on July 2.

Before voting on more resolutions, the committee asked the public in attendance at the meeting that was conducted on March 21 if there were any questions or concerns.

Bill Shewan was the only one to speak and respectfully asked the committee after voting to put in the job descriptions, names and salaries for the blue collar and police salaries so the public can know exactly what the committee voted on. The committee agreed and will correct the resolutions before making them available for public viewing.

The committee then voted “yes” on more resolutions, including: refunding overpayment of taxes due to sale of property for Block 188, Lot 19; refunding a 2016 Railroad Parking Permit fee for Ken Thompson; authorizing the mayor to execute an escrow agreement with OASG Hazlet, LLC for consideration of adoption of the redevelopment plan for Block 239, Lots 1 and 1.01; authorizing the release of the maintenance guarantee for Dr. Mahmoud Aly; approving emergency temporary appropriations; and authorizing the engineer to execute Progress Payment Estimate No. 1 for Shorelands Construction Inc. for the Department of Public Works Municipal Garage.

he committee was expected to conduct a hearing to discuss an ordinance to rescind Chapter 273 Mobile Home Parks, but decided to withdraw the ordinance.

Mayor Sue Kiley proclaimed the week of March 19-25 as “National Poison Prevention Week,” reminding those in attendance that poisoning is preventable, but “all people and even pets are at risk.”

Kiley encouraged all citizens to pledge their commitment of safety for themselves, families and community.

The next meeting is scheduled for April 4.
