A Holmdel High School student will join other talented musicians in the 2017
National Association for Music Education All-Eastern Honors Ensemble festival this week in Atlantic City.

Daniel Shin, a senior at Holmdel High, will perform in the festival at Boardwalk Hall from April 5 to April 8.

The All-Eastern Honors Ensemble has attracted is students from New Jersey, Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont and Washington, D.C. Students from Europe will also compete.

An oboist, Shin’s performance record earned him the oboe section’s first chair position in the Honors Orchestra. He is one of just four oboists from across the eastern region selected for this prestigious ensemble.

A former music teacher, the Holmdel Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Robert McGarry, realized the honor bestowed upon Shin.

“Students chosen for this ensemble perform remarkably challenging music,” the superintendent said. ” And being one of just four oboists in the eastern United States chosen for this honor is truly a great accomplishment and the result of many years of hard work and exemplary participation in New Jersey’s All-State Orchestra.”
