East Windsor Mayor Janice Mironov issued a proclamation at the April 4 town council meeting recognizing local libraries in appreciation of National Library Week, which runs from April 9 through April 15. The theme for this year is “Libraries Transform.”, Mayor Mironov stated that the township choose to recognize this event because of the important role libraries play in the community. She said that if one walks into one of the libraries at any time of day, night, weekend, there are people taking advantage of classes and programs, students doing homework and getting tutored and people of all ages utilizing all that the library has to offer., The mayor also spoke about the advances libraries have made from a technology standpoint. Libraries used to only offer books, but have transformed into offering CDs, DVDs, apps for Smartphones, all giving even greater access to all types of media that can be accessed without ever stepping foot into the library. The library has expanded in a way to better serve a wide variety of people and for a range of different needs., In addition to the proclamation, Mayor Mironov also presented the branch managers of the Hickory Corner Library and the Twin Rivers Library with Barnes & Noble gift cards, which were donated by Shisedo., Sharon Galbraith-Ryer, branch manager of the Hickory Corner Library, thanked the mayor, council and Shisedo for the support and donation. She also recognized the many patrons and members of the community who donate their time as well to make the library a useful resource. Galbraith-Ryer let those in attendance know that one of the library’s biggest fundraisers is the annual spring book sale, which will take place on Saturday, April 8, and urged all to attend., Jeanne Murray, branch manager of the Twin Rivers library, spoke about a new friends group, which is also a large financial supporter of the library and it programs. One such program is the Summer Reading program, which can help keep children of all ages, as well as adults, engage during the summer months while school is no longer in session. Murray said library officials believe that reading is the basis for all knowledge.
