A free aphasia communication group, sponsored Adler Aphasia Center, meets 10 a.m.-noon on the first and third Wednesdays of every month at Monroe Village, One David Brainerd Drive.
Sessions are facilitated by a licensed speech language pathologist. An individual may join the group at any time; however, advance registration is required.
Aphasia is a language disorder caused by stroke or other brain injury. It affects spoken language, reading and writing but does not affect one’s intellect.
The group, which is designed to provide an opportunity for individuals who have been diagnosed with aphasia to socialize with others who share similar experiences, also provides tips on communicating more effectively and time to practice communication skills in a natural environment.
