Literacy NJ will hold its annual Literacy for Life Conference from 8 a.m.-4:15 p.m. on April 22 at the Conference Center at Mercer County College in West Windsor, bringing together 200 students, tutors, adult educators and board members from across the state for a day of professional development.
Keynote speaker Richard Negrin, senior counsel at Obermayer, Rebmann, Maxwell & Hippel, LLP, will discuss “Building the NextGen Workforce.”
During the conference, Literacy NJ will host an awards ceremony to recognize students, volunteers and other leaders in literacy. Awards will include the Alice M. Leppert Award for Outstanding Affiliate, the Harry Van Houten Award for Lifetime Achievement, the Tutor Excellence Award and the Student Excellence Award for students who distinguish themselves through their academic progress, goal attainment and leadership skills.
The Literacy for Life Conference features 24 workshops, including topics such as preparing students for the U.S. citizenship test, leading online English conversation groups and a presentation from the ACLU-New Jersey about immigrant rights and discrimination issues.
Registration costs are $55 for tutors, trainers, staff and board members of Literacy NJ-affiliated programs or $65 after March 31, $100 for nonmembers and $30 for students.
