EAST BRUNSWICK – Police have charged a repeat offender with breaking into lockers at a local gym.
On April 10, employees of LA Fitness on Route 18 in East Brunswick reportedly observed a 45-year-old South Amboy man enter the gym, according to information provided by the East Brunswick Police Department.
The employees recognized him as a possible suspect in thefts from lockers in the past and notified the East Brunswick Police Department, according to reports.
Ptl. Matthew Unkel responded and arrested the man for an outstanding burglary warrant out of East Brunswick, police said. The warrant was based on an investigation by Detective Cris Farrace in which the suspect was identified as allegedly committing a November 2016 theft from an LA Fitness locker in which he reportedly used the victim’s key fob to burglarize his vehicle parked in the gym lot, police said.
Det. Joseph Bauer was assigned to investigate the latest incident, which resulted in a charge for possession of burglary tools for possessing a screwdriver, according to reports.
On April 11, another victim told police that a lock had been broken off of his locker at the gym and cash was stolen. The cash matched the denominations possessed by the South Amboy man during the investigation, according to police. Bauer signed an additional charge of theft against the suspect, according to reports.
The suspect was remanded to the Middlesex County Adult Correction Center in North Brunswick on the outstanding burglary warrant.
