Spring Dance Extravaganza at Red Bank High May 12

The Red Bank Regional High School Visual & Performing Arts Academy dance majors will present their Spring Dance Extravaganza on May 12.

The show will start at 7 p.m. and will be held at the Red Bank High theatre, 101 Ridge Road, Little Silver.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for senior citizens and children. All Red Bank High students are free with student ID. Tickets can be purchased at the door. For more information, contact Red Bank High dance teacher Cara Scacco at [email protected] or 732-842-8000, ext. 1477.

The show will feature 24 pieces with an intermission. According to Scacco, the Spring Dance Extravaganza will have yearning, emotional lyrical pieces in addition to contemporary, hip hop, ballet, jazz, pointe and tap.

Choreographers include the students as well as their teacher and two special guest artists.

MaryAlice Crelin, a teaching artist with a Dance Bachelor in Fine Arts from Mason Gross at Rutgers University, choreographed a commercial jazz piece for the juniors and seniors that will open the show. Garamh Kim, a graduate student from Rutgers, is teaching the underclassmen a traditional Korean piece.

The finale performance and send off for the seniors will be performed to music from “High School Musical.”

Several of the seniors hope to continue dance when they leave the Red Bank High Visual & Performing Arts Academy. Senior Debra Tuberion, will be attending the University of Tampa next year and hopes to join their dance team.

“While I am very excited about college, I will miss the close relationship and bonds made with all the dance majors,” Debra said. “We have all become best friends throughout high school.”
