Marlboro High School’s boys’ lacrosse program will help promote the sport when it plays a varsity and a junior varsity game against Red Bank Catholic High School May 12

The JV game will begin at 5 p.m., and the varsity match will follow at 6:30 p.m. Both games will be played at the township’s recreation turf facility that is located at Lotta Burke Way.

Marlboro scheduled the evening event in order to spread interest in the Marlboro Youth Lacrosse League, which plays its games at this turf facility.

The township, according to Marlboro High School’s boys’ lacrosse head coach Alexander Sinkovich, will sponsor a camp in June for players in grades 3-8.

Sinkovich hopes the game and the camp in June will help establish a youth travel team, as well as a bigger youth program.

“We are doing a small mini-camp coming up this June,” Sinkovich said.”We’ve had small clinics before, but this is the first real step in creating a larger youth program for the town.”

Sinkovich encourages all residents to attend the game and to have their kids participate in a “fastest shot” tournament during halftime of the varsity game to test shot speed. The competition is for players in grades 3-8.

“It’s a high school game Friday night under the lights,” Sinkovich said. “That’s what it’s all about.”
