PRINCETON: Middle school student threatens to ‘shoot up school,’ is taken into custody

By Lea Kahn, Staff Writer, A John Witherspoon Middle School student has been taken into custody after he was overheard threatening to bring a gun and “shoot up the school,” according to the Princeton Police Department., Police received a report of someone making terroristic threats against the John Witherspoon Middle School and its students on May 11. The student was overheard stating that he was going to shoot up the school the next day., School officials immediately contacted the Police Department, which responded to the school on Walnut Lane. Police determined that the student did not have access to a gun., The student was taken into custody and subsequently issued a monitoring bracelet while the investigation remains under investigation., The John Witherspoon Middle School was declared safe, but police are providing additional patrols., Chief of Police Nicholas Sutter thanked the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office for its help and praised the prompt response by John Witherspoon Middle School staff.
