Lane closures on Route 1 south in Woodbridge

TRENTON — A series of overnight single and double lane closures on Route 1 southbound in Woodbridge will occur to accommodate ongoing construction on the Garden State Parkway (GSP) bridges that span the state highway, according to the The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) and New Jersey Turnpike Authority (NJTA).

On May 15, starting at 9 p.m. until 6 a.m. the next morning and continuing each night through May 19, NJTA’s contractor Northeast Remsco Construction, LLC, is scheduled to close one alternating lane on Route 1 southbound. A second lane will be closed from 11 pm. until 6 a.m. the next morning, and continuing each night through May 19 for bridge deck replacement work in Woodbridge.

After next week, there will be intermittent off-peak closures until project completion in 2019.

Next week’s bridge work is part of an ongoing NJTA $42.7 million deck replacement contract of six non-major Parkway bridges between Old Bridge and Woodbridge, which began in 2015.

Additional lane closures during off-peak hours may be necessary until project completion. NJTA has designed the project to advance with temporary lane closures, reopening after each shift. All lanes will be maintained during the morning and evening commutes.

Variable message signs and detour signs are being utilized throughout the project limits to provide advance notification to motorists of all traffic pattern changes associated with the bridge project. Throughout the project, NJDOT will provide information before upcoming road or ramp closures.
