By Lea Kahn, Staff Writer
The horses may be missing, but not the bicycles as the Princeton Police Department hosts the 7th annual (Bicycle) Wheels Rodeo Saturday, May 20., The Wheels Rodeo, which runs from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., will be held in the Community Park swimming pool parking lot at 400 Witherspoon St. The rain date is Sunday – same time, same place., The purpose of the Wheels Rodeo is to educate children about the rules of the road and the importance of bicycle safety, said police Lt. Christopher Morgan and police Sgt. Frederick Williams., “The kids are taught the basic rules of the road. They have to negotiate a safety course. We also register bikes, which helps police identify the owner if the bike is stolen,” Sgt. Williams said., “It is also a great opportunity for the community to come together and meet members of the Princeton Police Department,” added Lt. Morgan., The event, which is open to all Princeton residents, includes a bicycle safety check, free helmets, a road course and a DJ to provide entertainment., A new bicycle will be raffled off, as well as a swimming pool membership., If all of that activity leaves a young bicyclist hungry, there will be free hot dogs and cold bottled water, as well as pizza., The Princeton Police Department, the Princeton Fire Department and the Princeton First Aid and Rescue Squad will display various emergency tools and equipment., And if anyone has a bicycle that is no longer needed, feel free to bring it to the Wheels Rodeo so it can be donated to the Trenton Boys and Girls Club Bike Exchange.
