EAST BRUNSWICK – A male from Piscataway is facing drug charges after reports of an alleged lewd act in East Brunswick.
The 38-year-old was charged with possession of marijuana, cocaine, drug paraphernalia and hash oil, after being found at ShopRite on May 6, according to a prepared statement from the East Brunswick Police Department.
Patrol units were dispatched to the area of the Route 18 supermarket for the report of a male allegedly performing a lewd act inside his vehicle in the parking lot, police said. The complainant stated the suspect vehicle reportedly drove away in an unknown direction. Ptl. Dennis Chieffo arrived in the area and began looking for the suspect vehicle, according to the statement.
Chieffo observed the suspect vehicle allegedly being driven by a male, and initiated a motor vehicle stop in the area of Whitehead Avenue in South River, according to the statement. Chieffo allegedly detected the odor of raw marijuana coming from inside the Dodge. The officer had the male exit the vehicle in order to speak with him further regarding the incident at ShopRite, according to police.
Once out of the vehicle, Ptl. Chieffo reportedly continued to detect the odor of marijuana coming from his person as well as from inside the vehicle, according to reports. A subsequent search of the man and his vehicle allegedly revealed a digital cigarette with a cannabis oil cartridge, 13 bags of suspected marijuana, one additional cannabis oil cartridge, one marijuana cigar, five THC infused gummies, one cannabis oil container and seven individual clear, plastic baggies containing suspected cocaine, according to the statement.
The man was charged with distribution of cocaine, distribution of marijuana, possession of cocaine, possession of marijuana, possession of hash oil and possession of drug paraphernalia. After being charged with the drug offenses in South River, Chieffo transported the suspect to the East Brunswick Police Department to further investigate the alleged original lewdness complaint, according to the statement.
At East Brunswick Police Headquarters, the man was charged with multiple counts of lewdness and was lodged at the Middlesex County Adult Correction Center in lieu of a bail hearing on all charges, according to police.
