METUCHEN — Shortly after a resident alerted police that his car was broken into last week, two teenagers were arrested and charged with the burglary and found to be responsible for two more car burglaries in the borough, according to Police Chief David Irizarry.
A 19-year-old from Perth Amboy and an 18-year-old from Carteret were both charged with three counts of burglary, three counts of theft, three counts of theft of a credit card, one count of receiving stolen property and one count of possessing a controlled dangerous substance.
The resident alerted police around 2 a.m. on May 18. Officers responded to the area and observed the two men walking in the area of Coan Place and Amboy Avenue. The males were then stopped and questioned by officers.
Officers then located items that were found to be stolen from three different vehicles in the borough, which included a laptop computer, credit cards and cash. The individuals were also found to be in possession of a controlled dangerous substance that was prescribed to one of the victims. Both men were then arrested and charged.
The suspects were later transported to Middlesex County Adult Correction Center in North Brunswick. The investigation is active and is continuing. Anyone with information is asked to call Detective James Keane of the Metuchen Police Department at 732-632-8561.
