The boys’ volleyball team at Woodbridge High School saw its season come to an end when Northern Burlington County Regional High School won the final two of three sets against the Barrons.
Despite the 2-1 (25-23, 10-25, 20-25) loss in the state play-in match, Woodbridge’s final record (10-10) stayed at the .500-mark — and that was something first-year head coach PJ Jacovinich was excited about.
“[I] couldn’t be happier with the effort they played with,” he said about his team following the final loss.
Jacovinich doesn’t want to rush to thinking about next season, but it’s already known that Woodbridge will be without some of its top players next year. Jaden Gomez, Julian Sosa, Jushyin Lee and Nickoy Nelson will all graduate in the next month.
Sosa, the team’s setter the last few years, led the Barrons with more than 300 assists. Gomez, Lee and Nelson, meanwhile, combined for more than 220 kills.
Prior to the state loss, Woodbridge was dropped in the opening round of the Greater Middlesex Conference (GMC) Tournament by local nemesis John F. Kennedy Memorial High School, 2-0.
