METUCHEN — The METUCHEN ROCKS! outdoor summer concert series has combined with the borough’s annual Junebug Artfest offering free concerts on Junebug’s main stage.
The Circle of Trust with Ben Davis opened the series on June 3rd and The Lonesome Pines (Acoustic Americana) played on June 10.
Upcoming concerts include David Cedeno and his Salsa Orchestra (Salsa, Latin Jazz) on June 17 and the Conrad Herwig Quintet (Jazz) on June 24.
On June 17, Main Street will be closed to traffic and opened for dancing when the band leader and recording artist David Cedeno brings his American Salsa Orchestra to Metuchen for a street party with his blend of salsa, Latin jazz and contemporary classics with an added Latin beat. There will be conga lines and salsa dancing in the street.
On June 24, the Conrad Herwig Quintet take the stage. Internationally known jazz musicians from Rutgers University—New Brunswick are represented in this quintet with Conrad Herwig on trombone, Abraham Burton on tenor saxophone, Marc Stasio on piano, Kenny Davis on base and Robby Ameen on drums.
The concerts begin at 8:30 p.m. The Main Stage is located on Junebug Plaza in the parking lot on the corner of Main and New Street in downtown Metuchen. On June 17, Main Street will be closed to traffic and the Main Stage moves to the corner of Main Street and Hillside Avenue. In the event of rain, the concerts will be rescheduled to August.
The concerts are sponsored by the Metuchen Arts Council and the Metuchen Recreation Department with support from the Metuchen Savings Bank. The concert series is also funded in part by the Middlesex County Board of Chosen Freeholder’s office of Culture and Heritage and the New Jersey State Council on the Arts/Department of State.
