Residents advised to be aware of utility employee scam

MONROE – The Monroe Township Police Department recently receive two reports of diversion burglaries on Union Valley Road and Englishtown Road.

Residents should beware of being asked to leave their homes by persons portraying utility service employees or soliciting contractors, according to information provided by police. The actors convince the resident to walk away from his/her home in order to allow another suspect time to enter the residence and take cash and valuables.

Any utility employees and solicitors must provide authentic identification which can be verified by calling the referenced utility company or the police department.
