South Brunswick officer locates three children reported missing

SOUTH BRUNSWICK – A quick police response led officers to find three reported missing children last week.

At 4:30 p.m. July 14, a frantic mother called 911 and told South Brunswick police her three children, ages 9, 8 and 2, were missing from her home in the South Ridge townhouse complex, according to information provided by the South Brunswick Police Department.

The mother reportedly told police she was doing housework while the children were in a neighboring room, but when she returned to the room, she could not find the children in her house, according to reports.

Several officers headed to the home to search for the children, police said. Officer Gagan Chopra was a block away from the home when he spotted the children running after a dog, according to the report. Chopra helped get the dog and children into his patrol car and drove them back to the residence.

The children told the officer that they all ran out of the house without telling their mother because they saw their little French bulldog run out of the house, according to police reports.

All three children and the dog we reunited with the mother in less than 10 minutes, according to the statement.

“It is the everyday efforts of officers that make a difference. This mother was distraught and the officer’s fast response found the children in record time,” Police Chief Raymond Hayducka said.
