UPPER FREEHOLD – Two firefighters have been hired as paid employees of the Hope Fire Company No. 1.
The fire company is based in Upper Freehold Township and serves Upper Freehold Township and Allentown. In addition to paid firefighters, the company is also served by volunteer firefighters.
On July 6, the Township Committee hired Kevin Hrudowsky and Trevor Good as on-call, per diem firefighters with the Hope Fire Company No. 1.
Hrudowsky and Good will each receive an hourly salary of $13. According to resolutions passed by the committee, they were hired by municipal officials upon the recommendation of the acting supervisor of the fire department.
As stated in the resolutions, the committee adopted an ordinance to create the firefighter position to have permanent employees available during the day. In adopting the ordinance, committee members said they believe permanent fire personnel fills a need in the community and ensures efficient response to emergency calls.
Township officials have found it is necessary to have paid firefighters on-call to fill in during vacation days, sick days or under other circumstances that may arise in the fire company, according to the resolutions.
The funds for Hrudowsky’s and Good’s salaries will be covered by Upper Freehold’s 2017 municipal budget.
