SOUTH RIVER – The South River Police Department has seen a recent increase in bicycle thefts reported to the department.
In all cases, the bicycles stolen were left unsecured in yards, parks and sidewalk areas, according to police. Residents are reminded to properly secure their bicycles with locks at all times in public areas. In addition, bicycles should be stored inside when not in use instead of being left outdoors, according to a statement provided by police.
Bicycle owners are also reminded to keep a record at home of the color, model and serial numbers of any bicycles they own. In the event one becomes a victim of bicycle theft, this information helps the investigation and increases the likelihood of the bicycle being recovered and returned.
