Heart of New Jersey Chorus seeks new members

As its members spend time during the summer preparing for upcoming performances, an all-female chorus is seeking new people to get involved and to share their singing talents.

Openings in all voice parts are available in the Heart of New Jersey Chorus, which is a chapter of Sweet Adelines International. The chorus generally rehearses in the Millstone Township Primary School, 18 Schoolhouse Road, Millstone Township, from 7:15-10 p.m. Wednesdays.

According to chorus director Jeanne Elmuccio, the Heart of New Jersey Chorus is made up of women ranging in age from their early 20’s to over 80. Residents of all communities are welcome to join the chorus.

“Members come from all walks of life, including registered nurses, doctors of veterinary medicine, researchers and developers, certified public accountants, business owners, banking and advertising experts, homemakers, students, teachers, retirees, retail, you name it,” Elmuccio said. “What brings us together is our mutual love of singing and sharing friendship.”

The chorus has 28 members and is seeking to expand. Prospective members may apply by calling 609-469-4537 or by sending an email to [email protected]

Guests are welcome to observe a rehearsal, according to Elmuccio, and prospective members are tested for their vocal range so they may be provided with the part most suitable for them. Prospective members may participate in a rehearsal as they are learning their audition music.

“The audition process is also a chance to get to know each other. We have a strong music team to help at all times. We want you to be successful,” Elmuccio said, adding that new members are accepted at any time during the year.

The Heart of New Jersey’s next performance is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Aug. 16 at Forsgate Country Club, Monroe Township. The chorus will perform at 2 p.m. Oct. 29 at the Millstone Township Primary School.

“Heart of New Jersey is a chapter in the Greater New York/New Jersey Region 15 which includes 900 members in 19 choruses,” Elmuccio said. “We chartered 23 years ago and continue a strong tradition of quality music and entertaining performances.

“Our rehearsals include a unique mix of learning and having fun. There are many opportunities for personal growth and group learning events provided by the chorus and the region. We love to sing together.

“We are fortunate to receive support, in part, from Monmouth Arts through funding from the Monmouth County Board of Freeholders and the New Jersey State Council on the Arts.

“Sweet Adelines is a unique organization in that you can join a chorus, then relocate to another state (and even some other countries) and find a sister chorus nearby that will welcome you in,” Elmuccio said.
