Hometown horse is favorite to win 50th Haskell

Irish War Cry, who is owned by the daughter of the 50th Haskell Invitational’s namesake, is the morning-line favorite to win the race that will be run July 30 at Monmouth Park.

The horse was listed with the 5-2 odds after the race’s draw that was held on July 27 at the race track in Oceanport.

The 50th annual $1 Million BetFair.com Haskell Invitational is scheduled to go off at 5:47  p.m. this Sunday. The post time for the first of 14 races on the day is 12 p.m.

Irish War Cry, the New Jersey bred horse, will start in Gate 1. The horse, which  is trained by H. Graham Motion and will be ridden by  Rajiv Maragh, is owned by Isabelle de Tomaso, who is the daughter of Amory L Haskell, the person for whom the race is named.

Irish War Cry was born at Overbrook Farm in Colts Neck.

Starting at Gate 2 will be Battle of Midway, who is trained by Hall of Fame trainer Jerry Hollender and will be ridden by jockey Flavien Prat. Battle of Midway received 5-1 odds.

Gates 3 and 4 will be occupied by Chad Brown trained Timeline and Practical Joke, respectively. Timeline’s jockey is Javier Castellano and has the odds of 3-1. Practical Joke’s jockey is Joel Rosario and is 4-1 to win.

McCraken, which is 9-2 to win, will start in Gate 5. McCraken is trained by Ian Wilkes and the jockey is Brian Hernandez, Jr.

Hence, which will start in Gate 6, is trained by Steven Asmussen and the jockey is Paco Lopez. Hence’s odds are 12-1.

Lastly, Girvin will start the race at Gate 7. The horse is trained by Joe Sharp and will be ridden by Robby Albarado. Girvin’s odds are 6-1.
