When it comes to celebrity streets, few can match Roxbury Drive in Beverly Hills. The two-block stretch north of Sunset Boulevard is most notable. In its heyday, it was the most star-filled neighborhood in Hollywood. Who all lived on North Roxbury Drive? Here are some notable street numbers …
905 – Musician Oscar Levant made this his home in the 1940s.
906 – Former home of Ginger Rogers and husband Lew Ayres during the 1930s.
918 – Originally a Tudor-style house built for film director King Vidor, James and Gloria Stewart bought it in 1949. During the 1960s, James also bought the house next door, had it torn down and turned that property into a garden, where he grew corn, tomatoes and other veggies. After his death, 918 was sold for $5.6 million. The house was demolished and replaced with an Italian-style villa.
921 – Former home of Rick Schroder, known for Silver Spoons, Lonesome Dove and NYPD Blue.
1000 – On the next block from the Stewarts, this was home to Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz (and later, Gary Morton). Ball reportedly paid $85,500 for it in 1955. When she died in 1989, it went on the market for $7.8 million.
