HOWELL – The Township Council has appropriated $8.15 million, which includes the issuance of $7.6 million in bonds, for capital improvements in Howell.
Officials unanimously adopted the municipality’s 2017 bond ordinance on Aug. 15.
The authorized improvements include, but are not limited to, a roof replacement at the Echo Lake pavilion, kitchen improvements at the senior center, upgrades to the Department of Public Works garage locker room and break room and the replacement of the fuel island, completion of the Office of Emergency Management building on Windeler Road, and bathroom and shower upgrades at the criminal justice building.
The bond ordinance provides for a driveway and intersection improvement program, a curb and apron replacement program, a pavement patch program, replacement of the Lake Louise dam, the dredging of Aldrich Lake, replacement of the Bear Swamp Pond dam and West Farms Road sidewalks.
Council members adopted a capital ordinance authorizing and appropriating $200,000 providing for the rehabilitation of inflow and infiltration pipes, manhole laterals and the Woodburn pump station.
In other business at the Aug. 15 meeting:
• Council members adopted an ordinance creating the position of Class III Special Law Enforcement Officer in the Howell Police Department. The employees will be retired law enforcement personnel who will be hired to work as officers in Howell’s schools.
• Council members awarded a $97,000 contract to Glenside Equipment for improvements to the septic system at the Department of Public Works property on Old Tavern Road.
• Council members awarded a $63,750 contract to T&M Associates for professional services related to underground storage tank compliance work at the Department of Public Works property on Old Tavern Road.
• Council members authorized the purchase of field lighting at Oak Glen Park in the amount of $581,633 through participation in the National Joint Alliance with Musco Sports Lighting.
• Council members accepted the resignation of William Walker from the Farmers Advisory Committee.
