Longtime Edison principal passed away

Gerald F. “Jerry” Young, of Edison, died August 13 at JFK Medical Center in Edison.  He was born in Monmouth Junction, and had resided in Edison for the past 60 years.
Mr. Young retired in 2015 as a principal with the Edison Township Board of Education.  He opened the James Monroe School in 1964, then moved to the Lincoln School, and spent the last 16 years at the John Marshall School.  He was the longest acting principal in Edison and the state of New Jersey, according to his family.  He was a Magna Cum Laude graduate of Rutgers University in 1955, and received his Master’s in Education in 1961. Mr. Young was a member of the Edison and NJ State Principals Associations and the Rutgers and Kean Educational Association.
He was a communicant of St. Francis Cathedral in Metuchen, a member of Knights of Columbus Council 4885 in Edison, a founding member of the JFK Medical Center Board, past president of the Edison Rotary where he received the Paul Harris Award, and a 25 year member of the Clara Barton 1st Aid Squad.
Mr. Young is survived by his wife of 60 years, Katherine “Kay” Martinak Young, and his children, Dennis A. Young and his wife, Janis, of South Plainfield and Kathryn “KJ” Deleski and her husband, John, of Edison.
