The YMCA of Metuchen, Edison, Woodbridge and South Amboy (MEWSA) will hold its annual Janice Garbolino 5K event on Sept. 23.
Each year, walkers and runners participate in the 5K event in memory of Janice Garbolino, the former Health & Wellness director of the Metuchen Branch YMCA. Garbolino lost her battle with breast cancer in 2002 and the 5K was created to keep her memory strong.
Registration will be accepted online at www.ymcaofmewsa.org/5K until noon on Sept. 22. After that, participants can register the morning of the event, from 7:30 – 8:15 a.m., at Lakeview School in Roosevelt Park, 10 Oak Dr., Edison, which is the location of the start and finish of the 5K.
The run/walk will start at 8:30 a.m. Fees are $30 per person in advance and $40 per person on the day of the event.
All proceeds from the 5K will support the LiveSTRONG at the YMCA program, a physical activity and well-being program designed to help adult cancer survivors reclaim their total health.
