A 54-year-old man has been charged with two counts of burglary and theft for breaking into the Princeton United Methodist Church on two separate occasions, according to the Princeton Police Department.
Bobby Jackson, 54, of Lumberton, was arrested and charged with burglary and theft on Aug. 31 after church staff called police to report the theft of a laptop computer on that date.
Police arrived at the church, which is on the corner of Nassau Street and Vandeventer Avenue, and determined that the suspect – who was later identified as Jackson – was still in the area.
A search led police to Jackson, who was charged in connection with the Aug. 31 incident.
Police also arrested Jackson on an outstanding warrant for burglary and theft stemming from a June 19 break-in at the Princeton United Methodist Church.
Jackson forced his way into a church office and also entered several unlocked church offices in the June 19 burglary, police said. He took two violins and miscellaneous items.
Jackson was taken to the Mercer County Corrections Center with a pending court date.
