Comedian and actor Eddie Izzard will return to the Count Basie Theatre, 99 Monmouth St., Red Bank on Oct. 2. Tickets for the Believe Me Tour are on sale through Ticketmaster.com.
Izzard’s first book, “Believe Me”, was released on June 13 and is a New York Times Best Seller, according to a press release from Count Basie Theatre. The memoir reflects on a childhood marked by the loss of his mother, boarding school, and alternative sexuality, as well as a life in comedy, film, politics, running and philanthropy, and recounts his rise from the streets of London to West End theaters, Wembley Arena, Madison Square Garden and the Hollywood Bowl.
According to the press release, the now 55-year-old actor and comedian was born in Yemen and raised in Northern Ireland, Wales and England. His mother died when he was six and he began his career as part of a double comedy act in London before launching a solo career.
Izzard’s career has spanned 30 years, according to the press release, and he has previously appeared in director Todd Haynes’ 1998 film “Velvet Goldmine” and on the television series “Hannibal.” He will next be co-starring opposite Judi Dench in the film “Victoria and Abdul”, which premiered at The Venice Film Festival on Sept. 3 and will open to the public on Sept. 22.
