Jamesburg councilman charged with DWI after second crash in three months

JAMESBURG – A former Jamesburg councilman was revived after a DWI motor vehicle accident just months after he was found in possession of cocaine during another vehicle crash.

Thomas Busco, Jr., 49, of Jamesburg, was traveling north on Perrineville Road in Monroe at around 10:27 a.m. Oct. 3 when his 2010 Ford F150 approached the intersection with Schoolhouse Road, according to information provided by the Monroe Township Police Department.

The truck reportedly struck a curb, left the roadway to the right, and continued to travel east across the grass of the Monroe Township Middle School property toward the football field, police said. The vehicle then struck a tree branch and a metal support post for the football score board.

Officer Daniel Mosakowski of the Monroe Township Police Department was en route to Monroe Township High School to investigate an unrelated incident, according to police. While stopped at a red traffic signal at the intersection of Perrineville and Schoolhouse roads, he reportedly witnessed this crash.

Mosakowski approached the crash scene and found Busco unresponsive in the driver’s seat. He observed that he was not breathing and did not have a pulse, according to reports. Mosakowski began CPR and was able to regain a pulse and breath.

Monroe Township First Aid, along with Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital paramedics arrived on scene and took over care of Busco. Naloxone (Narcan) was subsequently utilized and Busco regained consciousness, according to police. He was then transported to Raritan Bay Medical Center in Old Bridge.

Busco was allegedly under the influence of alcohol and drugs. He was charged with DWI, DWI in a school zone, failure to maintain lane, reckless driving and careless driving.

Busco was allegedly found in possession of cocaine when he crashed his vehicle at 5:43 p.m. July 7 at Buckelew Avenue in Jamesburg, Chief of Police James Craparotta said at the time. He had been charged with reckless and careless driving, operating under the influence of liquor or drugs, and possession of a controlled dangerous substance, according to Craparotta.

Busco was first elected to the Jamesburg Council in November 2009, according to Business Administrator Scott M. Frueh. He was reelected in November 2015 for another three-year term. His term would have expired on Dec. 31, 2018, according to Frueh, but his position on the council is currently vacant.
