The history of Red Bank explored

As part of a benefit for the Monmouth Museum in Middletown, a luncheon is being held that will inform guests of the history of Red Bank and the impact Michael Eisner’s great-grandfather had on the borough.

The Friends of the Monmouth Museum, a group of volunteers who plan, organize and host fundraising activities to support then Monmouth Museum, are holding the luncheon at the Molly Pitcher Inn, 88 Riverside Ave., Red Bank, on Nov. 8 at 11:30 a.m. Tickets are $65 and may be purchased online at www.monmouthmuseum.org, by contacting Helen Brown at 732-224-1993 or [email protected], or by mailing a check to the Monmouth Museum, PO Box 359, Lincroft, NJ 07738.

The luncheon will feature a presentation on Red Bank’s history, which, according to the Friends of the Monmouth Museum, will focus on Sigmund Eisner, the great-grandfather of former Walt Disney Company CEO Michael Eisner, as well as the Eisner family’s overall influence on Red Bank.

According to information provided by the Monmouth Museum, the Austrian-born Sigmund Eisner was the president of the Sigmund Eisner Company, a national manufacturer of Boy Scouts of America and other uniforms, that was based in Red Bank. A 1917 biography stated that he came to the United States in 1880 at the age of 21, and referred to his company as the largest manufacturer of uniforms in the country. Eisner became further embedded in Red Bank’s history when he married Bertha Weis, whose family was recorded as the founders of the borough.

Today, the Eisner family is known through their association with the Walt Disney Company through Michael, who served as Disney’s CEO for over two decades, from 1984 to 2003.
