Last weekend, the Hopewell Valley Soccer Association continued its fall recreational season.
The following is a submitted collection of the weekend’s results.
D4 Girls
Dr. McDonough’s Live Wires traveled to Ewing Township on Saturday to play Ewing’s Team 3. Mariel Haynes started the Live Wires’ scoring with an unassisted goal within the first two minutes of the game. Katie Clarke proceeded to score three more goals, two of which were assisted by Mariel. Late in the first half, Chelsea Kent accepted an outstanding pass from Mariel, then found the back of Ewing’s net.
Goalie Natalie Kasprzyk, aided by excellent defensive work from Zoe Zeng, Sierra Mitchell and Makenzie Scherbekow, kept Ewing off of the scoreboard. Switching things up for the second half, Katie took over goal tending duties, turning away every shot that came at her. Makenzie and Zoe switched to offense where they exhibited good ball control, aggressiveness and passing. Natalie, Sierra and Chelsea kept Ewing’s defenders and goalie busy for the entire half with many shots. Dr. McDonough’s Live Wires won the game 5-0. Katie Clarke recorded her third three goal game of the season. Mariel Haynes earned the playmaker honor with one goal and three assists.
D3 Boys
On a beautiful October afternoon, DeSimone Orthodontics defeated Ewing 2 by a score of 5-0.
Jackson Blackwell made a nice one-on-one move for his first goal of the year, and supporting goals were scored by Joshua Kohlhepp, Tommy Irvine, Aaron Nulman and Connor Batcha. Preserving the shutout were Jeffrey Blake and Paul Warznak in goal, along with consistent defensive and mid-field support from Robert Taylor, Adam Rise, Teddy Franzino, Noah Pashman and Shane Sullivan, who all made plays to stop scoring opportunities.
D3 Girls
On Saturday, the Union Line Garage Firecrackers challenged Jack’s Nursery, securing a win by the score 3-0.
The first score came off the foot of Emilie Sawicki, as she fired in from the 18-yard mark in the first five minutes of the second half. Amanda Flanders charged in as the ball bounced off the post from Lilla Antal’s shot, and put it in the back of the net. Union Line’s defense, led by Reena Fielding, Shreya Mookherjee, and Piper Brant did a tremendous job keeping Jack’s Nursery outside of the penalty box, making it difficult to find the net, but they had several shots from deep that were extremely close. Controlling the midfield for a large part of the match was Kate Coyer and Manvi Shah, with the final score by Union Line going to Lily Ryan, who masterfully received a throw in by E. Sawicki, and did a one touch shot to score.
Union Line Garage had a hard fought draw against Robbinsville 1 on Sunday, with the final score of 0-0.
D2 Boys
Burdwood’s Landscape and Patio Design played J&V Trophies on Saturday. Good defensive plays were made by Adithya Siva, Matthew Sarni, and Stephen Bilobran. Ryan Fornal and Dylan Somma put forth a great effort running up and down the field. Good offensive plays were also made by Dylan Hersh, Tyler Ananian, and Vincent Matticoli. Eli Angarone played a solid midfield game, scoring the lone goal for Burdwood’s on a penalty kick. Burdwood’s lost to J&V Trophies, 5-1.
Burdwood’s Landscape and Patio Design faced Capital Health on Sunday. Ryan Fornal and Dylan Hersh played a strong game, with each scoring a goal and getting an assist. Tyler Ananian played a solid game in goal during the first half, and then scored a goal as a forward in the third quarter. Christopher Mackin, assisted by Juan Geller and Eli Angarone, also netted one for Burdwood’s. Dylan Somma had a few good breakaways, leading to some scoring opportunities and netting him an assist. Gavin Gola made some great saves as goaltender and was able to clear the ball many times as a defensemen. Burdwood’s defense was also supported by Eddie Besant, Stephen Bilobran, and Matthew Sarni. Burdwood’s defeated Capital Health, 4-1.
Capital Health fell 4-1 to a spirited Burwoods Landscapes on Sunday. Chris Miliaresis scored the Capitals’ lone goal in the second quarter. Lucian Teodorescu provided support in midfield, with Jeremy English, Trevor LiVecchi, and Erik Petrin contributing supporting runs and shots on goal.
Team Stelitano played a good game on Saturday against Team Modells, which resulted in a 3-1 win. Overall team improvements in areas of passing, ball control and communication were instrumental in the time the ball spent in front of the Model’s goal. Field presence was extremely notable with Oliver Yicas, Robert Hartman and Zack Lubas. Goal scorer was Seamus Manning with a hat-trick by goals in the first, second and fourth quarters.
Team Stelitano played a good game again on Sunday, which resulted in a 3-1 loss. The team’s improvements continued but amazing opponent defense and uncoordinated shots on goal worked against Team Stelitano. Substantial improvement was still being made in all areas. Eli Pashman really pushed the effort in front of the opponents goal, while Robert Hartman proved he was a major force in defense goal scorer was Seamus Manning.
The Kuppek Landscape team had another tough schedule with Saturday game against Wilson Apple and a Sunday game with HVSA – the top two teams in the league.
During the Saturday game, the Kuppek team chose to attack Wilson Apple from the beginning and quickly went up in the first quarter by one goal, scored by Aiden Luciano. The second quarter was tied with no goals being scored by any teams. On the start of the second half we started our attacks on Wilson Apple trying to increase our lead – with some good follow through by Aiden and Brayden Seage, they scored two more goals in the third quarter. The kids were playing well passing to each other and making sure that Kuppek kept the pressure on. Early in the fourth quarter, the Kuppek team benched a few of their good players and concentrated more on defending. Due to some mis-communication by the defense, Wilson Apple scored at the last minute – final score 3-1.
Kuppek Landscape had a game on Sunday against HVSA. The Kuppek team started off with a bang and scored early in the first quarter to go up 1-0 with a beautiful kick to the far post by Aiden Luciano. The 1-0 score held until half time. The third quarter saw Kuppek go up 2-0 with another goal by Aiden capitalizing on a loose ball in the penalty box of the opponent. Late in the third quarter, HVSA scored back with a fast counter attack by their star player Nigel which caught our defenders off-guard.
Kuppek Landscape were able to hold off HVSA to just a single goal greatly due to some good defending by Samik Mookherjee and goal keeping by Jack Thielmann.
D2 Girls
Stark & Stark Team Bob had another great weekend. On Saturday, they won 2-1 over the Nectars, with Sidney Young again being among the players who scored. On Sunday, Team Bob tied the Blackbirds, which was more exciting than any win for the girls. Angelyn Zhao and Sidney Young again had the goals bringing the Bobs to a 2-2 tie.
2009B
The HVSA boys’ U9 Hopewell Hurricanes dominated at the Cherry Hill Soccer Club’s 2017 Kick or Treat Tournament. In the first game against the Cherry Hill Raptors, Jacob Berman, Snayhin Sharma, and Patrick Slajchert each scored, leading the Hurricanes to victory, 3-1.
The second game against the Voorhees Wolf Pack was a close one, but the Hurricanes came from behind to win 4-3. While the Wolf Pack scored early, the Hurricanes would not be stopped. Jack Pachtinger launched a corner kick which ricochet off an opponent and hit the back of the net. Archie Seas scored with a beautiful chip shot over the keeper’s head. Dylan Kawalek tied the game with a great left-footed shot, and the last goal by Patrick Slajchert brought the win home.
The third game was a tough match between the Hurricanes and Bordentown Community, saw amazing goals by Jaxson DeRossett, Ethan Garber, and two great shots by Archie Seas.
On Sunday, the Hurricanes returned to the field to play against the Millburn Bolts. The Hurricanes came into the game hungry. Dylan Kawalek took the ball to the net and passed to Jack Riewe, who scored not once but twice. Kawalek couldn’t be stopped as he beat three defenders to increase the Hurricanes’ lead, 3-0. The Bolts scored twice, but the Hurricanes kept the pressure on. Michael Cappucci was fearless on defense and refused to let his opponent get past him. The next point was added to the scoreboard when Jack Pachtinger ran the entire distance of the field to launch the ball and score in the upper right corner of the net. Logan Gonsalves launched a rocket from the eighteen to score. Finnegan Curley couldn’t be stopped and added a goal, and Jaxson DeRossett added the team’s last goal to end the game 7-2. This weekend was a true testament to a group of young athletes who are learning the power of teamwork.
2006G
The girls of HV Nor’easter played the team of New Providence for the second time on Sunday. The teams were well matched and played an exciting game, scoring only one goal for the final score of 0-1.
Defense by Hallie Carrick, Madeleine Todd and Olivia Chila was strong with some impressive foot work and body blocks. Wendy Zheng and Ella Fessler were the goalies for the game. Anastasia Angarone had two amazing head balls, one defensive from right in front of the goal. Iris Lautermilch, Emily Eschleman and Tierney Mullowney showed good team work with good offensive pressure.
2004G
The Hopewell Heat U14 Girls remain undefeated in EDP League play – logging two wins and a tie last weekend. The Friday night match up against the Deptford Killer Bees was a battle in the midfield. Both teams were scoreless after 80 minutes of play for a 0-0 finish.
On Saturday, the Heat beat the Monmouth Coast FC Shore Breakers 2-0 with tallies by Adele Cappucci from 25 yards out and Sarah Yancey with an assist from Emily Chess. Sunday’s game ended with the Heat on top (3-0) against SJEB Rush from South Jersey. This time is was Devin Mullowney, Eva Guerino, and Yancey with goals and assists by Sofia Venezia and Diana Benford. The Heat’s defense shut down all three teams with solid play in the back field from Samantha Shaw, Elli Hill, Erin Popik, Emily Neal, Benford, and Cappucci, as well as goalie Sophia Parsons. Adding to the offense were Katie Tillman, Anna Gill, Gillian Lee, Ella Zimmerman, and Meagan Gordon.
