Marlboro schools will aid hurricane relief efforts

MARLBORO – The Marlboro K-8 School District has identified three school districts which have suffered a significant loss due to recent hurricanes. All of the districts have lost libraries, classrooms and supplies and have requested help as they seek to recover from the natural disasters.

The three school districts identified are the Aransas County Independent School District, Rockport, Texas; the Henderson Independent School District, Henderson, Texas; and Collier County Public Schools, Naples, Fla.

According to a press release from the Marlboro school district, the supplies being requested have been compiled based on items listed by the districts in need.

The requested items include monetary contributions, gift cards (e.g., Amazon, Staples, Walmart, Target), 12-inch rulers, Expo markers, Dixon Ticonderoga No. 2 pencils, Post-it notes, pens, tissue boxes, Expo Whiteboard block erasers, wet wipes, Ziploc quart slider storage bags, Dixon Ticonderoga erasers, 5-inch blunt tip children’s scissors (new) and single subject spiral notebooks.

Donations will be collected until the end of October. The district anticipates sending the items in November, according to the press release.

A $1 donation is being requested with a donated item to help defer shipping costs. Any money left over after shipping costs will be donated to All Hands Volunteers through Norwegian Cruise Line and all donations will be matched dollar for dollar by Norwegian Cruise Line, according to the press release.

In addition, the Marlboro Memorial Middle School and Marlboro Middle School Bridge Builders are hosting movie nights with free admission. Donations will be accepted and snacks will be sold with the profits being used for shipping costs. All remaining monetary donations will be donated, according to the press release.
