SOUTH BRUNSWICK – A traffic stop resulted in charges lodged against a Monmouth Junction man for the recovery of a loaded handgun.
South Brunswick Police Officer Ricardo Moreira was on patrol on Route 1 around 11:19 p.m. Oct. 21 when he reportedly observed a red Nissan Altima turn onto Blackhorse Lane without use of a turn signal, according to information provided by the South Brunswick Police Department.
Moreira conducted a motor vehicle stop and discovered that the 23-year-old driver had an active traffic warrant out for his arrest, according to reports.
During the search of the vehicle, Moreira reportedly located a loaded Lorcin 25-caliber handgun hidden inside of the suspect’s pants, near his calf, according to reports. Officers at the scene also searched the vehicle which reportedly resulted in locating prescription medication inside of a small zip lock bag which the man did not have a prescription for, police said.
The driver was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm and unauthorized possession of prescription medication. He was lodged at the Middlesex County Adult Correction Center in North Brunswick without bail, pending his first court appearance.
