Freehold Township
Freehold Township High School improved to 7-1 after it defeated East Brunswick High School, 17-14, at home on Oct. 27.
Freehold Township quarterback Nick Reardon threw for 186 yards and two touchdowns. His main target was receiver Kevin Doherty, who caught both touchdown passes and finished with 89 receiving yards.
In a crucial showdown on Nov. 3, the Patriots host undefeated Manalapan High School (8-0) at 6:30 p.m.
Manalapan
Manalapan gained revenge and prepared for its showdown with Freehold Township when the Braves knocked off Piscataway Township High School, 28-0, on Oct. 27 in Manalapan.
Back Naim Mayfield of Manalapan ripped off 194 yards on the ground and scored two touchdowns. Symir Blacknail scored the other two touchdowns for the Braves.
Manalapan avenged its 34-13 loss to Piscataway in the Central Jersey, Group 5 state playoff finals last year. The teams will not meet this season in the playoffs since Manalapan, which stands at 8-0, remains in the section but Piscataway, which is 5-2, moved to the North Jersey, Section 2, Group 5 section.
Manalapan travels to Freehold Township (7-1) on Nov. 3 at 6:30 p.m.
Marlboro
Marlboro High School improved to 3-5 when it edged Toms River High School East, 35-34, on its home field in overtime on Oct. 28.
Marlboro quarterback Kyle Moore threw for 188 yards and two touchdowns, and he kept the ball for a touchdown, too. Marlboro was also fueled by back Dontrell Alston, who rushed for 158 yards and a touchdown.
The Mustangs travel to Howell High School (7-1) on Nov. 3 at 6:30 p.m.
Howell
Howell moved to 7-1 when it posted a 42-20 victory at New Brunswick High School on Oct. 27.
Quarterback Edwin Morales threw for 140 yards and a touchdown for Howell. He also ran for 87 yards and scored a touchdown.
The Rebels will be home to Marlboro (3-5) on Nov. 3 at 6:30 p.m.
Jackson Liberty
Jackson Liberty High School upped its record to 2-6 when it hit the road and defeated Pinelands Regional High School, 34-28, on Oct. 27.
The Lions scored 21 points in the second quarter and led, 28-21, at halftime.
Jackson Liberty will travel to Donovan Catholic High School (2-5) in Toms River on Nov. 3 at 6:30 p.m.
