FARMINGDALE – Republican Borough Council members Erich Brandl, Kaaren Corallo and Dr. Don Steinfeld are running unopposed for three three-year terms in Farmingdale on Nov. 7.
Corallo was appointed to the council in May to fill an open seat. Since joining the council she has chaired the Personnel Committee.
“To date, we have successfully replaced openings in our crossing guard team and conducted mandatory safety meetings for these employees. In addition, we have promoted one of our Department of Public Works employees to lead laborer, a position that was recently vacated. All the new employees take pride in their positions and are doing a great job for our residents and children,” Corallo said.
“My personal goal for the future is to continue working on behalf of our residents, ensuring that the actions of the council are in the best interest of those we represent,” Corallo said.
Steinfeld is running for his second full term on the council.
“As far as accomplishments go, the past three years have been very good for Farmingdale. I have lived here for about 30 years and I have always felt it was a wonderful little town and have always looked forward to Farmingdale retaining its small-town charm.
“I am happy to say the council and the mayors over the past three years have been very successful. We have pursued beautification and enhancement of the town’s appearance. This has been made possible thanks to our streetscape program.
“Farmingdale continues to benefit from extremely responsible financial oversight. Our property taxes are very reasonable and the council has tried very hard to maintain this advantage of living in our town,” he said.
Steinfeld said he wants to continue to modernize the borough, but remain fiscally responsible.
“Our goals for the future include modernization of the borough’s physical plant, this includes our streets, water plant, school and Borough Hall. We will do our best to continue fiscal responsibility,” Steinfeld said.
The councilman said he believes the governing body’s communication with residents is a positive accomplishment to which council members can point.
“Our communication and information sharing with the people of the town has never been better, although we continue to try to make it as good as we can. Perhaps the best way to explain how the mayor and council feel is to say that we want to make Farmingdale as nice a town to live in and as pleasant a place to visit as we can,” Steinfeld said.
Brandl did not respond to a request for comment.
