HOPEWELL: School board veep endorses candidates

Andrew Martins, Managing Editor
To the editor:
I am Alyce Murray, completing my first term as the current Vice-President of the Hopewell Valley Board of Education and requesting your support to elect me to continue to serve the Valley for a second term. I have had the privilege of serving Hopewell Township for the past 3 years as Chair and Member of the Education Program, Policy, Technology and Personnel Committees, Negotiation Team, and Liaison to Timberlane, Toll Gate and the Hopewell Valley Municipal Alliance. I have a unique and specific perspective of the successes, challenges and needs of the students and residents in the Valley from various roles I have assumed in the community over the last 23 years. I moved to this community to attend The College of New Jersey in 1991 and graduated with a B.S. in pre-medical biology, a minor in chemistry, a business concentration and graduate studies in secondary education. When Mobil’s Environmental and Health Sciences Laboratory moved out of Hopewell, I refused to move with them, instead shifted careers to pursue graduate studies and my passion for health and wellness as a Certified American College of Sports Medicine Exercise Physiologist, Health and Wellness Coach at PAC, PEAC and my own personal training studio. My passion for serving our community continued on the Pennington Borough Council from 2011-2013 as Liaison to Economic Development and Parks and Recreation. Over the past few years, I’ve been able to share all that our school district has to offer as I help families find homes in and around the Valley as a real estate sales agent with Callaway Henderson Sotheby’s International Realty, Pennington.
My husband, Brad, Director of Engineering for ALC in Plainsboro, shares my advocacy for the direction of our educational programming with the expansion of STEM and continued exposure to our award-winning arts programs, practical skills development and exploring new and innovative ways to utilize technology in student-centered, inquiry and project-based educational models. We also share our enthusiasm for our middle and high school athletes, as we may be seen cheering on our students Steven and Derek Doldy in high school football, lacrosse and ice hockey; Kevin Murray and our Bolivian exchange student, Ignacio Arteaga, in soccer and Faith Doldy in Timberlane soccer and track.
With the support of our community, I respectfully request your vote on November 7th to continue my second term in leadership, along with 2-term experienced Board Member, Adam Sawicki and experienced newcomer, Darius Matthews. With a demonstrated commitment to professional leadership development through the NJSBA resulting in my Boardsmanship Certification award, recognizing the commitment of new board members in achieving a minimum of professional development credits, attendance at weekend orientation, a regional development program, county association meetings and annual NJSBA workshops all in the first 2 years of service. With my extensive and varied professional background, longterm township residency and ongoing experience as current Vice President, I would appreciate the opportunity to continue to utilize my experience to support and expand upon our achievements: fiscally responsible, record low budget increases, while achieving an A+ Niche rating (#11 statewide) in academics and athletics, 3-time AP Honor Roll which recognizes increasing student accessibility while maintaining high success rates in advanced level classes, 100+ clubs and activities for students to find their inner purpose and sense of belonging, innovative counseling programs, state recognized cultural competency initiative, expanding cost and energy saving green initiatives and increasing programs with revenue sources that pay back the district for participation. Please vote #1, #2 and #4 in Column H.
