Event assists Alzheimer’s program

HOWELL – Clouds and mist could not put a damper on the Music in the Garden event that was held at Calgo Gardens, Howell, on Oct. 15.

Community members turned out to celebrate and support the work of Caregiver Volunteers of Central Jersey and its Connection Thru Music program, according to a press release.

Connection Thru Music matches youths with seniors who are living with Alzheimer’s disease and dementia, creating connections through the power of music memory that build a bridge to memories and a sense of self that is otherwise lost to the disease, according to the press release.

Proceeds from the afternoon’s festivities totaled more than $12,000 and will go toward training additional volunteers and matching volunteers to caregivers to receive this free in-home program, according to the press release.

Local musicians donated their time and talent throughout the day, including Billy
Simmons, Kaleigh Brendle, Jack and Will Santoro, the James Sleeman Trio, Rose Lees, Sophia Montalbano, Dave Vargo and Vic Della Pello.

The event included a wine tasting from Cream Ridge Winery and a blood drive for
the Central Jersey Blood Bank. A portion of the day’s receipts were donated to
Connection thru Music by the Tulip Tree Café, the Yoga Loft and Calgo Gardens.
