On. Oct. 23, the Township of North Brunswick completed its last Wartime Veteran Street Naming for 2017.
In 2017 we honored 29 families. In total since I started this project, we have honored 58 families in North Brunswick.
At every one of the street namings, the veterans and their families have a wonderful appreciation of this honor. The families of veterans who have passed have this same wonderful appreciation. It’s one of their fondest memories. Looking out at the veterans and their families while reading these proclamations with smiles and tears on their faces makes this all worthwhile.
We have honored veterans from World War II, Korea, Vietnam, Persian Gulf War, Iraq and Afghanistan.
The Township of North Brunswick will continue this program beginning April 1, 2018. Applications for wartime veterans are received throughout the year. The honored veterans must be a past or current resident of North Brunswick. The requirements can be found at www.northbrunswicknj.gov, on Channel 15, on our Facebook Page, or at the Municipal Building at the Department of Parks, Recreation and Community Services (DPRCS).
We also are continuing our Veteran Brick Paver Project at Veterans Park. The recipients of these pavers do not have to be residents of North Brunswick. Two hundred fifty pavers are completed at Veterans Park. If you have your forms turned in by March 2018, the pavers will be completed for the Memorial Day Ceremony. The cost of the pavers are $75 each. Forms can also be found online or at the DPRCS office at the Municipal Building.
Please make sure that all forms for both projects are submitted to Lou Ann Benson, director of the DPRCS.
