MARLBORO – The Marlboro Memorial Middle School Drama Club will present “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,” Roald Dahl’s timeless story, rewritten by Richard R. George.
Charlie Bucket is this story’s hero, coming from a humble household over-stuffed with two parents, four grandparents and one bed. His excitement and gratitude for winning the coveted golden ticket is contrasted by a quartet of children who personify “excess” at its worst, all of whom will entertain and delight audience members, according to a press release.
Dahl uses a story about chocolate, the ultimate indulgence, to relay a message about the dangers of greed.
This dramatic production is stage directed by Robin Shatsky and Randi Maskery, with set design by Stephanie Zoppi and costumes by Marilyn Dickholtz.
“This title is one of the most beloved children’s stories in history. I am honored to have the opportunity of directing over 35 of the most amazing and talented cast members. The tremendous support we receive from our principal, Mr. John Pacifico, and our assistant principals, Dana Tardio and Loreen Labuza, is immeasurable,” Shatsky said.
“Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” will be performed at the Marlboro Memorial Middle School, Nolan Road, Marlboro. All members of the public are invited to attend the show. Performances will take place at 7 p.m. Nov. 17 and at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Nov. 18. Tickets are $5 at the door.
Shatsky said the cast and crew of “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” are pleased to partner with Fulfill (formerly the FoodBank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties) to help bring food to the community.
In honor of a school campaign, “Students Change Hunger Challenge,” the cast and crew are asking audience members to bring non-perishable food items to the performance. All donations are appreciated and donors will be entered into a prize drawing, according to the press release.
