Mater Dei’s Jones signs with Loyola

Mater Dei Prep’s Ken Jones, who is regarded as one of the top boys’ basketball players in the Shore Conference, signed a National Letter of Intent to attend Loyola University in Maryland.

Jones, a guard, helped guide Mater Dei to the Shore Conference Tournament championship the past two seasons.

“Over the past 27 years of my career, Ken has been one of the most focused student-athletes I have coached,” Mater Dei coach Ben Gamble said. “For Ken to say at a young age that he wanted to become a doctor was very impressive. His athletic IQ is just as high as his academic IQ, and I know he will do great things. His family and the Mater Dei Prep community should be very proud of Ken’s accomplishments.”

Jones’ parents, Kevin and Brigitte, were on hand for the signing event at the Middletown school on Nov. 8.

“This is an exciting end to the first chapter in Ken’s life. As parents, we are extremely proud of Ken and feel like we accomplished our mission. It is wonderful to see a driveway dream become a reality for our hardworking son,” Kevin Jones said.

“The goal was always to push Ken to work hard in the classroom and on the basketball court to live out his dream of attending a prestigious university and playing Division I basketball,” Brigitte Jones said.
